Dr. Marilyn Chun was born and raised on the island of Oahu. After she graduated from Aiea High School, she attended the University of Hawaii-Manoa where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology/Cell Molecular Biology.
Dr. Chun earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2004. She has served the patients of Pearl Family Dental Care for over 19 years. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Hawaii Dental Association, and Honolulu County Dental Society.
She spends her free time with her husband and son. They enjoy exploring new places to eat, trying the newest Boba tea drinks, and aren’t afraid to research and try new recipes to cook at home.
I am passionate about dentistry because I love helping people achieve their dream smile, ideal oral health, and enjoy developing life-long relationships with them as their dentist. As a Hawaii native, I believe in caring for each patient like “ohana” or family, and with the “Spirit of Aloha,” a way of life and treating others with love, compassion, and respect. I pride myself in providing patients with honest, gentle, and high-quality dental care based on a relationship of trust and integrity.
As a teenager and in my early 20’s, I received a significant amount of dental care because of poor eating habits and sports-related trauma to my teeth. Fortunately, my dentists were very caring, patient, and non-judgmental, which inspires my strong desire to treat patients with the same values. I personally understand the anxiety, discomfort, and pain patients experience with dentistry because I too was once a patient terrified of going to the dentist. It is a blessing and privilege to help each patient obtain a healthy, beautiful smile they love through sympathetic and genuine dental care.
I believe it is important to genuinely listen to patients’ concerns, and exceed their expectations with comprehensive, empathetic dental care. I am an advocate for prevention and patient education about oral health and the impact on general health. Most importantly, I value teamwork and building strong relationships based on trust and mutual respect to help patients achieve optimal dental health, ideal function, and a beautiful smile.
In my free time I enjoy taking my dog to the beach, surfing, hiking, working out, spending time with friends and family, and serving at my church and within the community.
